Becoming a Member at First Presbyterian Church

First Presbyterian Church (FPC) of Norwalk, Ohio, is a local expression of Christ’s universal church. We encourage regular attendees to consider becoming a member. Membership is a step of mutual commitment.

FPC’s Commitment: Provide opportunities for growth in faith, service, relationships, and witness.

Member’s Commitment: Share in FPC’s ministry, build relationships, and witness to Jesus Christ.

Steps to Membership

Step 1:

Meet with a Pastor

At home or in the pastor’s office, to share your faith journey, reasons for coming to FPC, and to discuss our understanding of God, Scripture, and mission.

Step 2:

A Meal with Pastor and Elders

Learn about FPC ministries, discuss membership commitments, and receive Session approval.

Step 3:

Received into Membership

During a Sunday service, new members are baptized (if not already) and received into membership. The congregation welcomes the new members at a reception following the service.

Belonging Faith Foundations

As part of the membership process, we encourage all potential members to participate in “Faith Foundations,” a course offered annually.

This course is designed to introduce people to the basics of the Christian faith and life at FPC. It emphasizes the importance of making a faith commitment and becoming part of a church community. The course also includes an overview of the church’s various ministries, helping participants find ways to get involved.

Basic information is gathered during the class, including the results of an interest inventory to connect individuals with relevant opportunities. It’s a great way to make new friends and become part of the family at FPC.
